1895: Wilhelm Roentgen discovered what he called "a new form of light".

1896: Thomas Edison jumped on the bandwagon, creating his user-friendly fluoroscope, which did all sorts of damage in the hands of the inexperienced.

1900: X-rays become the hospital sensation, as patients lined up for a try.

1913: Coolidge (1873-1973) invented the "hot" cathode tube.

1916: Marie Curie established mobile X-ray units and began training X-ray technicians for military service.

2006: Airlines in the US began the routine use of skin reflection x-rays for bomb detection at airports.
