The tube has an electron gun at left and a fluorescent screen center. The beam of cathode rays hits the phosphor screen at a very high angle of incidence. The black ring is the housing for Helmholtz coils which put a magnetic field in the screen region. In this image the magnetic field is zero and the cathode ray beam is straight. |
