CRT monitor and magnet

A strong permanent rare-earth magnet is brought up to the front of a cathode ray tube. The electrons spiral around field lines and are eventually reflected in the in the increasing magnetic field.

The dotted pattern is caused by the shadow mask close to the screen. The shadow mask allows one of three beams to activate one of three different colored phosphors.
