A process that exchanges no heat with the surroundings is said to be adiabatic. Because there is no heat flow in or out of the system, an adiabatic change will warm or cool an enclosed gas. Decompression clouds (above) form as air, laden with water vapor, suddenly expands, and is cooled. |
