A fire piston

Cotton ignites in the compressed air which has an increased oxygen concentration. Putting pure oxygen in the tube would work even better. Fire pistons, carefully made from wood, bamboo and bone, were apparently used in antiquity. Matches were introduced in Europe before the idea could catch on. The device works, but the effect is far from dramatic.
