Electroscopes

Electroscopes are now museum pieces, having been replaced by digital Coulomb meters.

The simple (c.1900) type at right has two hanging gold leaves that separate when charged. There are no scales - the instrument gives only an approximate measure of charge.

Make your own with a bottle and any very thin metal foil.
