Light reflects from a hanging film

When soap or detergent is added to water the surface tension is reduced and it is then easy to blow bubbles of thin water layers.

The sheet of water is only a few wavelengths of light thick. When light passes through the film a small amount (about 2 or 3%) is reflected from each surface.
