Alpha particle energy

Alpha particle kinetic energy varies by a factor of two and is related (as shown) to the half-lives of the heavy parent nuclei.

The small variation in particle energy, over the extraordinary half-life range, is accounted for by the tunneling of alpha particles out of the nucleus, even though they have very much less energy than the barrier potential (~28 MeV).
