Force-extension cycle for a rubber band

The force-extension graph as the rubber stretches is not a straight line. As the rubber contracts not only is the line not straight but it returns towards zero on a lower path of the force-extension plot.

The graph was made with a force probe and a motion detector using Logger Pro 3.0. The animation was made in Flash MX.
