Microwaves

Microwaves have wavelengths of 0.1-10 mm, shorter than (UHF) ultra high frequency radio waves and longer than very long wavelength infrared. They are generated in ultra high frequency resonant circuits with free electrons ... called klystrons.

Line of sight cell phone networks and microwave ovens are two areas of technology that involve this radiation that are familiar to the public. A cell phone radiates ~2 watts and an oven operates with ~600 Watts.

Microwaves penetrate meat etc. to a depth of ~10 cm. Microwave ovens heat water and cook without burning. The food is bland. It lacks the texture and taste of fried fish or oven baked bread etc. Cell phones are regarded in some circles as dangerous to health, but the worst they could do is cook one's ear - an effect than has so far not been reported.
