Hurricane |

A hurricane (typhoon in the North Pacific) develops from a 1000 km cyclone spinning above a warm (>26°C) sea. The winds increase in velocity towards the walls of the open eye.  When a hurricane moves over land or a cooler sea it loses the energy source (latent heat of condensing water vapor) and weakens. |
