Phase and group velocity

Watch the diagram showing the sum of two waves of different frequencies carefully. The group velocity is the speed of the beats to the right. The group velocity is less than the phase velocity - also to the right. Note: the wave velocity given by v = fl is the phase velocity. A full discussion is beyond the scope of this document and not required for IB.
