Frequency in cycles per second (Hertz)

Any wave travels a distance l in a time T, (the period). Wave velocity v, is distance l, over time T. Since f =1/T we have at once v = fl.

Note: f is the frequency of the wave generator ... independent of subsequent velocity and wavelength changes due to changes of medium.
