Dissonance

If a beat frequency is greater than 20 Hz ,the beat is interpreted by the ear/brain system as dissonance, (a harsh grating sound).

Listening to dissonant sounds is normally an unpleasant experience. Some electronic music is an exception. A composer may deliberately create dissonance to disturb and upset the listener.
