Digital imaging

Digital image processing was invented at JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) for the space program. The engineers invented a way of enhancing the result so that the public were able to see the craters in low contrast transmitted images, along with the scientists.

From these early beginnings, the image processing industry has grown into a major force. Any desktop computer running Photoshop now has more image processing capacity than even NASA dreamed of back in 1964.
