| Diffusion is the slow transport of molecules across a semi-permiable membrane or the slow mixing of layers of fluids - for example fresh water over brine - with time. Because the speed of molecular motions increases with increasing temperature all diffusion rates are temperature dependent (food coloring in tap water below). |
