Deep water gravity waves |

The waves shown are deep water gravity waves for which l< d/2. Deep water waves have very little longitudinal motion on the bottom and the velocity is not depth dependent. When l< d/2 the equation for gravity wave speed (for wavelengths greater than a few cm that are not influenced by surface tension) simplifies to....  Ripples on a pond are deep water waves. |
