Colloidal particles

A colloidal solution contains particles with diameters in the micron range, that are so much affected by Brownian motion that they do not settle out over time. Colloidal sulphur is a common example. A fish tank containing a milky white, colloidal sulphur solution, selectively scatters shorter blue wavelengths from sunlight, leaving a reddish beam. The solution is used to demonstrate the effect of the atmosphere at sunset.
