If charge is uniformly distributed over the surface of a conducting sphere the potential at any point outside the sphere is equivalent to the potential due to the same charge concentrated at the center. It follows at once that the potential V at the surface of a charged conducting sphere is proportional to the charge q on the sphere.
The constant C is called the capacitance of the sphere. C is given by... The Farad (the Coulomb per Volt) is the unit of capacitance. The Farad is a large unit. The capacitance of a conducting sphere is equal almost to the radius in cm expressed as Picofarads. |
