Bremsstrahlung

Bremsstrahlung, literally braking radiation, is the continuous X-ray spectrum emitted when high energy electrons decelerate as they strike a fixed target (tungsten block). Around 1% of the energy of a 20kV electron beam is converted to X-rays; the rest appears as heat. The maximum X-ray photon energy is the kinetic energy of a single incident electron. > More
