Anaglyph

Two pictures with differing geometry are colored with complimentary colors, that are seen as black through filters of the opposite colors; typically red and green but sometimes red and blue.

The two photographs (left and right) were taken with different camera positions. They were then 'colorized' red and green in Photoshop. Layers were pasted to a third frame (center) to overlay the images. Viewing the final image with red/green glasses gives the full 3D effect in natural color.

The technique is sometimes used in magazine illustrations and for children's novelty items. It is an occasional display method on Astronomy Picture of the Day.
