Advection is downward movement of a more dense fluid (the opposite of convection). Advection fog [also called sea fog], occurs when warm moist air flows across a cold surface. A warm moist airflow sometimes drifts in to Russell in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. The air cools over the sea; water vapor condenses. A thick sea fog rolls in and stays most of the day. Passenger ferries get lost. |
