Implosion

.

An implosion is the opposite of an explosion.

An implosion is a sudden collapse: in this case a brittle spherical shell of plastic at or near liquid nitrogen temperature, collapses inwards when ruptured. The sound is a shock wave, just as it is in a regular explosion.

Implosions are not as potentially destructive as explosions, but they do generate turbulence and release some heat energy.
