Induced voltage in a simple case

The vertical force on an electron at the bottom of the rod, (due to the separation of charges) is FE.

The magnetic force FB on a current element is given by F = BIL. Since current is a flow of charge in Coulombs per second, the force on q Coulombs of charge moving with speed v perpendicular to a magnetic field B is given by....

F = Bqv

At once, the magnetic force on an electron in the wire is given by....

FB = Bev

The magnetic force FB is balanced at equilibrium by the electric force FB.

Ve/d = Bev

and ... V = Bvd
The induced voltage is proportional to the field strength B, the velocity v. and the length of the rod, d.
